Smiles, Smiles and more Smiles!

These just make me happy!

6 month bean

Hard to believe that 6 months has already flown by for our littlest. Seems like all we did was blink and half a year was over. Scary how quickly they grow up.

With that I am feeling a surge of happiness and each new day brings new excitement, adventures, changes, and learning experiences. And every time Liam learns or discovers something new I find myself smiling and then feeling a little tinge of sadness as I realize how quickly my baby is growing and not staying that sweet little babe from the first week of life.
At the 6 month mark.....

You weighed in at 16.3 pounds (27%tile)....a little low for your size, but I'm not to worried.
You are 27 inches....(79%tile).......this might be why you are skinny, cause you're so tall!
You are wearing 9 month clothing.
Nursing 5 times a day, eating 3 solid meals.
Sometimes those solid meals include 2 portions of food rather than one.
You certainly found your voice, and man is it loud!
You love to smile, and have a fantastic one :)
Still tolerating your brother rather well, and loving the fact that you know how to scream at him.
You love the Jump N Go.
Big fan of Cheerios.
Will only nap for a long period of time in the afternoon if you are in my bed and snuggled on my pillow. (Yes, I know I am spoiling you.)
Love to sit in your push car and go for walks.
Can now move all around the house in the walker.
Prefer to be standing than sitting.
Rolls all over the place, definitely not a stationary baby anymore, but not quite yet crawling.
Can hold yourself up in a sitting position for a few moments if propped up before falling down, but still not pulling yourself up on your own.
Big fan of your pipe, and now know how to put it back in yourself.
Grrr...still waking up at night.
Have 2 bottom teeth and getting 4 on the top :(

Without a doubt, one of our life's greatest blessings and a sheer joy in our home.

End of the day

It's been a looooong day......busy, rushed, stressed, yet fun in the end. When I walked into my room this evening this is what awaited me......

A 2 month Bean...

(This posting is a tad late....so goes our life!)

At 2 months old Bean loves to sleep! You went to the doctor and had 4 shots :( But you were such a great trooper and while you did have a slight fever were never super miserable and didn't seem to require meds to help bring it down.

You're still eating often during the day but are going on and off with 5-6 hour nights :) Love that!

Don't quite love that you're still a baby barracuda when you eat....new experience is a milk blister for mama :( not pleasant at all!

Stats from the doctor: 12.6 pounds 23.25" long and 15" head

Growing like a little bean should...newborn clothes are all packed away again, into the 3-6 months. Diapers are a challenge, still making you use up the size 1 but you really need the 1-2 size.

At about 7 weeks old you started to smile consistently for us and then just at 2 months you started cooing and talking.

Staring up at the fan and lights, one of your favorite activities.
Big brother was jealous and wanted into the photo!

Slacker

I am such a slacker with some things this go around on baby 2.....one such is birth announcements.

With MJD they were purchased and mailed out before he was 3 weeks old. With LAD...well there is a stack this is getting mailed out tomorrow and that should be the last of them. I hope :)

So for anyone who reads this and for whatever reason isn't getting one in the mail, these were the two final contenders....I couldn't decide, so I ordered some of both and randomly mailed them out to those on my list :)

Baby Clothing

There are some articles of clothing from MJD that as I go through I just can't imagine putting on Bean....either I lost interest in the piece, think it's way out of "baby fashion" or am over seeing it. But then there are a few items that I just absolutely love :)

This outfit MJD wore for his first Christmas....
(MJD 9 weeks old.)

Here is Bean in it....
( LAD 7 weeks old.)

Can you tell that they're brothers????

6 weeks.....3 months....

Love the jammie....Bean outgrew the newborn one a couple weeks ago so tonight my 6 week old is wearing a 3 month jammie!!!

Slow down Bean!!!

Sorry Shakespeare

"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." ~ William Shakespeare.

While a rose would still smell like a rose, the implication that the name of the item doesn't matter is something I have to disagree on Shakespeare with. After keeping friends and family in the dark, well as many as MJD didn't blab too at least, the story behind our baby boy's name is here.

At 14 weeks along in the pregnancy we already knew we were going to have a baby boy. I began to experience some bleeding and we were frightened I was going to miscarry. On the way to the doctor's office I sat in the car battling tears and praying for my little boy. All the time thinking that if I lost this little love I didn't even have a name for him yet. As I felt on the verge of terror, God in His amazing goodness washed over me and spoke peace to my heart that He was in deed my great Almighty and would protect my little bean. He knew how much I desired this baby and would provide for us in this fear.

Tim and I had already compiled a list of names we liked and were debating.... when we returned from the doctor and had learned that everything was in deed fine and healthy, I went through each name on the list to research meanings and ideas.

LIAM- a shortening of the name William. Meaning....PROTECTOR, DESIRE, WILL.

That was it! His middle name, Andrew, is a family name on my father's side. Also the name my parents had hoped we would use for a first name. I love the name, but didn't want a Drew or Andy for short. Andrew means strong and manly.

I knew right away, from the depth of my soul that every time I would look in his face or say his name, that same peace God gave me and assurance of His presence would flood my heart. So that is part and parcel to why we kept the name a secret too. I wanted the joy of that experience to be just mine for a while. I wanted people to ask about his name, so every time I share the story I can remember God's grace in that moment.

Liam Andrew,
May you always know that from before you were thought of on this earth, you were very much desired in Heaven. Your very beginning was planned, loved and willed with everything we could have done here on earth and with all of God's love in Heaven. You are a very special gift to us and those you meet. Your life has purpose and a will far greater than anything I as a mother can ever dream.

And yes, many times I still will call you "Bean", because to be honest your name evokes some emotions too great for me at times. So as you lay here beside me in bed, just a mere 3 days old, I want you to know I savor every second of this life with you. Every step of this journey, from your beginning to your arrival has shown me the protection and provision of our God. Every sight of your sweet face reminds me of how mighty God is.

Little Bean's Debut

Little Bean..a.k.a. Liam Andrew has finally come to round out our little family. My what an experience the ordeal was.

Not quite the 1 hour shower event that had been stressing us, we did make it to the hospital, but not the way we thought things were going to go down.

Monday morning I had an OB appointment for my 38 week visit. I was about 3 cm and 70% which had been an improvement. Looking back, it's possible I had been farther along than that, doctor may have been a little conservative. (He told me if I was still pregnant next week he'd do an induction the the 14th, which I was not to happy about as I had planned on the 12th.) Had planned to blog Monday night but fell asleep first.

I ran to Babies R Us with Tim, back into town for some errands on my own while MJD played at grammy's house, picked up my little guy, home for a nap, a little cuddle time and t.v. and then dinner with Daddy at Jason's. Nothing particularly interesting, no signs of impending labor, and I had honestly thought bean would hold out till the weekend. Did do some of laundry, wasn't particularly exhausted, sore or experiencing a lot of contractions.

Tim studied for his test till 11 or so, we went to bed and I had mapped out my Tuesday activities with a girlfriend I had been planning.

1:36 am....MJD escaped his room and snuck into bed, too tired to move him and he wanted to hug me so he fell asleep with us.

2:50 am....woke up like normal to go to the bathroom. Crazy how I noticed that my hips hurt insanely!!! Almost couldn't walk, but did manage to hobble to the bathroom and back to bed. Crawled into bed and in an effort to get comfortable I moved my leg on a pillow, felt baby move and heard a "pop" sound.

2:55 am....Tim woke up, asked how I was, explained what happened and he asked if I was wet and my water had broken, I hadn't felt any "gush" so I hesitated and then began to feel a "trickle" of something. He helped me out of bed, I went to the bathroom and realized I was gushing blood. Called Amanda but got no answer, called the in laws to get MJD and began to load up the car. No contractions at this point, just kept feeling like I had to pee.

3:15-3:20....In laws came and collected MJD and we left the house for the hospital. Contractions started in the car, began about every 7 minutes, then every 5, by the time we arrived at hospital they were every 2-3 minutes.

4:00....arrived at hospital, lady at ER tried to delay us, big mistake with a contracting mama...found L&D, membranes decided to rupture, LOTS of water....got to room to change and get admitted....EEEKKK!!! pools of blood around me. Now at this point I was afraid placenta had ruptured/detached because the nurses looked scared, asked about last ultrasound, paged a doctor immediately, got me to a bed quickly, checked me immediately. Was 6 cm and 90%.

4:20 ish....nurse checked me again as blood was pooling on the bed, starting to make me nervous!!! 7 cm. Eek, this is happening quickly. Contractions were strong but tolerable, not pleasant. Asked about an epidural because I knew I was running out of time. Then discovered they couldn't give me one because they didn't have my labs and records from the OB office in the system! Seriously?!?! Nurse explained I needed to prepare to do this without pain meds. I only remembered the pain of the first one and was about to panic.

(side note.....with MJD I was induced and contractions came with Pitocin. Those were ridiculous, could not be tolerated, felt like life was ending with just a few of those before pain meds were administered. Natural contractions were by no means pleasant, and not to diminish the pain, but not at all as bad as they were the first time. I could still talk through them, felt yucky, but not on death's door.)

4:45ish... My OB arrived, apparently the nurses were scared and woke him up rather than using the on call OB, checked me, didn't seem worried. Promised he'd get me the epidural if I could hang on a bit.

5 am.... Anesthesiologist arrived, (apparently OB had some pull!) inserted the cath for meds, test dose given, full dose given, body began to relax after about a half hour, one leg heavy, one leg mobile (but reverse from last time, funny huh?) lower pain abated some, upper pain in belly still really strong.
(If you have done labor naturally and think the epidural numbs all pain, not so, just takes some edge off, I could still feel each onset, full length and release of every contraction, feel baby moving, pull legs, feel pressure to push, etc.)

6 am.... Nurses ready for shift change, checked again, 9.5 cm and ready any time. Told to relax and rest a bit for the epidural to work a little longer. Baby was a bit high yet and hadn't dropped down enough.

7 am... Body ready to have baby, bed adjusted to make baby come down birth canal better before pushing. resting at a moderate level of pain, waiting for OB to enter.

8 am... OB arrives, checks me and asks me to do a practice push. (At this point, I'm thinking it would be like last time with a while of practice pushing before actual delivery, not so much this time.) He tells me to then wait for the next contraction, then gets up, gears up, adjusts things. I feel the next one begin, push twice, relax, wait, next contraction, push, push, and BEAN ARRIVED at 8:20!!!

Can't even come up with a title

Waiting......

Checking things off a list......

Getting things ready......

Counting contractions.....then actually getting sad when they stop!

Nervous!

Excited!

Wondering when I'll meet my new love and what he'll be like.

Great present

Got a great present at bean's baby shower this weekend. Some great friends of ours (who also own a photography business) treated us to a maternity photo shoot. Which is really sweet since I have like zero photos of me pregnant this time around and have not wanted to be in front of a camera at all because all I look is huge!

We ended up breaking it up into two sessions due to scheduling, time, lighting, etc. So another session will be done here at home tomorrow night.

Here are some of the teasers from the first shoot. Can't wait to see them all. Hans definitely has a gift of making things look better than what they actually are :)

Cease and Desist

Dear Bean,

It has been my greatest honor and most humble pleasure (most days) to be the human incubator for your miraculous growth. I have loved feeling your jabs, kicks, hiccups. Watching my tummy move as you bounce around and get comfortable.

I have greatly enjoyed our morning breakfast time together as we scarfe down Chick-fil-a at work and our mid evening naps as we crash together on the bed while big brother watches too much t.v.

I have been incredibly humbled again that God would honor me with being your mother and the ability to bring forth another little life into this world. I am constantly reminded of the great task ahead of me in raising you.

I can not tell you how amazing it feels to see your little life inside of mine every time we have an ultrasound picture done. Each time I whisper your name or speak to you my heart feels so full I can hardly stand it.

With all of that being said, I am writing to you to let you know this is your final month inside your warm habitat. As much as it pains me, and believe me it will, you will have to come out. You officially have 30 days (or less) until your arrival. Please take notice and enjoy your last month.

I can't wait to meet you, and continue to pray you grow strong and healthy as you prepare to arrive. We're so excited for all you will bring to our lives. We can't wait to announce you!

Love forever,
Mama (a.k.a. Management)

Corbin and Bean before they come out

This photo was taken to appease a co-worker.....Not at all a great photo of me, but I suppose in the years to come I'll learn to appreciate it. Sharon was such a good sport to go along with it too.

Dear Bean,

Hello sweet boy,

Only 45 more "official" days until you are here, but I think it will be less than that, either by your choosing or mine. While I would love for you to be here a.s.a.p. I know you still need a little more time to "cook" in there.

Your nursery is coming along, slowly but surely it will get there. I'm working on some decorations and other odds and ends. I bought you some new jammies to wear in the hospital, elephants of course! I even picked up a new outfit to bring you home from the hospital in.

You're getting quite unhappy with your cramped quarters in there, and your kicks and punches are not going unnoticed at all, each one hurts something fierce! Monday night I thought we might be having to take a trip up to the hospital since I had a few hours of contractions when I came home from work. Please don't scare us like that too much, Daddy is under a lot of pressure and stress on his own right now getting ready for his test.

Your big brother is getting awful excited about you coming soon. I hope he's still this happy when you get here. He does love to kiss my belly and feel you kick. It's hard to explain to him that he can't kick you back :)

Some friends of ours are planning you a little party next weekend, it will be nice to spend time with friends and celebrate you. I got to meet your buddy Corbin yesterday. He was born Tuesday and is super cute and sweet. Definitely think you guys will have fun together and like each other. But you'll have to get here first.

I've been dreaming about you the last few nights...can't wait to see your sweet face, hold your hands, and kiss your toes! Until we meet, enjoy your warm little cave, be kind with your kicks and punches, and don't start the contractions again until you're sure you're ready to come out :)

I love you so dearly little one and am praying for you all the time.

Love,
Mama

Little bean

I am waiting in my OB's waiting room with a stack full of photos....

Photos of my new little bean.

I felt like bloging because I have to do something...just too much emotion.
He's too beautiful for words, measuring on target and with a bit of a chunky belly! Imagine that, me having another chunky baby boy!

The technician told me his kidneys are too full, he either hasn't peed yet or he might have a blockage...either way they will run another ultrasound to check him in a few weeks. I have already learned to just trust God with him, so I am not too concerned.

Oh what will you he little bean? What colors will you like, what foods will you enjoy? Will you be shy or loud, overly rambunctious or laid back?
Will you have the same big belly laugh of your brother or the sly grin of your father?
What dreams will you dream, what plans does God have for you, and what lives will you touch?
I can't wait to hold you and meet you and walk you through this life, but until God is ready for us to meet I will keep you warm and safe, feed you, talk to you, protect you, pray for you and make certain you are aware every moment that you are loved, cherished and so greatly desired.
